The Walla Walla High School girls bowling team brought home the WIAA State Championship, capping off an incredible season with a dominant performance on the biggest stage. Competing against the top teams from across the state, the bowlers stayed focused, confident, and composed from the first frame to the final roll.
Throughout the state tournament, the team delivered consistent scores and rose to the occasion in pressure-filled moments, combining strong individual performances with outstanding teamwork. Key strikes, timely spares, and steady communication helped separate Wa-Hi from the competition as the day progressed.
Coach Hoppen said the team’s success began long before the postseason.
“We knew going into the season that we had the most experience returning from last year,” Hoppen said. “The girls were incredibly supportive of one another as different athletes stepped up in each match. That depth and encouragement made the difference all season long.”
The five starters and two alternates on the district team averaged between 142 and 164 for the year. Reagan Hendley, Alliana Zierenberg, Amelia Hubbard, and Teegan Timmons earned All-Conference Second Team recognition, while Chelsea Faden received Honorable Mention honors.
The team finished 17–1 in league play to capture first place in the MCC for the first time in program history. Along the way, the girls tied or surpassed the previous team game record of 893 on six different occasions. They set a new program record of 935 against the Kennewick Lions on January 20 and established a new match record of 2,085 against Chiawana on January 13.
Wa-Hi continued its strong performance at the District Tournament, winning the team title with games of 810, 910, and 925. Teegan Timmons led the way by capturing the individual district championship with a 577 three-game series, while her four teammates all placed in the top 10.
At the State Tournament, the Lady Blue showcased both competitive excellence and sportsmanship, defeating their opponents by an impressive 417 pins to secure the championship. All five bowlers finished in the top 20 out of 90 competitors, with the top 12 earning medals. Timmons placed third, Chelsea Faden finished eighth, Amelia Hubbard took 12th, Alliana Zierenberg placed 14th, and Reagan Hendley finished 20th.
Hoppen credited the team’s composure and unity for the historic finish.
“A state tournament tests your focus and mental toughness,” Hoppen said. “These girls never wavered. They trusted each other, stayed positive, and bowled with confidence from start to finish.”
The title marks a major accomplishment for the program and a memorable moment for the athletes, who will forever be remembered as state champions. Their victory is a testament to hard work, commitment, and passion — and it brings pride to the entire Walla Walla community.
