After finishing second in the District 6 Slowpitch softball tournament, the Blue Devils started the WIAA State Championship tournament in Yakima on Friday, October 24th with a loss to R.A Long by a score of 17-5. The Blue Devils bounced back in the evening by defeating Inglemoor 20-1. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate on Saturday as consolation bracket games were cancelled due to rain. All teams in the consolation bracket
finished the tournament tied for 3rd place. Congratulations to our team and coaches for a great season as they finished with a 18-8 overall record.
The boys and girls XC teams headed to Wandemere Golf Course in Spokane on November 1st to compete in the District 6 Cross Country Championships along with the rest of the Mid-Columbia Conference and Greater Spokane League. The boys placed 9th out of 12 teams while the girls team placed 4th out of the 10 schools competing. Moving on to the State XC Championships in Pasco on Saturday, November 8th are Hazel Asmus, Katie Burt, and Alice Rudin. You may follow all the state meet action on the WIAA Website – WIAA-XC.
Girls soccer won their first game of the post season by defeating Cheney High School 1-0 in the last minute of a second overtime. Saturday, November 1st saw the Blue Devils lose to University High School in penalty kicks, 1-0. The Blue Devils continue their quest for a state tournament berth in the consolation semi-finals, Tuesday, November 4th vs Ridgeline HS. The game is to be played at Blue Devil Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 pm. Girls swim and dive hosted the District 6 Swim and Dive championships over three days, October 30 – November 1st at Walla Walla University (dive) and Whitman College’s Harvey Pool (swim). The Blue Devils dominated the event by claiming the District 6 3A Swim and Dive Championship by outpacing 2nd place Cheney by a score of 526 – 286. The Blue Devils captured 5 individual championships and qualified for state: Violette Schindler (200 IM/100 Butterfly), Madelyn Smith (50 Free/100 Free), and Izzy Kirtley (100 Breaststroke). In addition, the Blue Devils swept the relay portion of the meet and sent all three relays to the WIAA State Swim and Dive Championships, November 14th and 15th in Federal Way. In addition to the event champions, Olivia Thayne qualified in the 200 IM with a second place finish.
The WaHi volleyball wrapped up the MCC regular season last week with a home win vs Kennewick and a road defeat at the hands of the Southridge Suns. With a tiebreak in place, the Blue Devils had to travel to Spokane on Saturday, November 1st to play Central Valley for the final spot into the District 6 3A Volleyball Tournament. The Devils dropped a hard fought match 3-2 to have their season end.
With a third place finish in the 3A MCC football standings, the Blue Devil football team earned a play-in game to the round of 32 state playoffs. The Blue Devils travel to University High School in Spokane on Tuesday, November 4th for a 6:00 pm game. The game can be viewed on the NFHS network. The winner of the game will travel to Eastside Catholic on Saturday, November 8th.
