Rockyridge Drummers and Dancers Share Culture Through Music and Movement
Students at our high school had the opportunity today to experience a powerful cultural performance by the Rockyridge Drummers and Dancers, a Native American group dedicated to sharing and preserving their traditions. Their visit included traditional drumming, singing, and dance, offering students a meaningful look into Indigenous culture.
Throughout the performance, the group explained the significance of the songs and dances they shared. They emphasized the importance of community, respect, and honoring their ancestors—values deeply woven into their cultural practices.
Students listened to the steady rhythm of the drum, often described as the “heartbeat” of many Native cultures, and watched dancers perform in traditional regalia. The performers also encouraged students to learn more about the history and contributions of Native peoples, both locally and across the country.
The visit from the Rockyridge Drummers and Dancers provided a memorable experience and an opportunity for our school community to appreciate and learn from Indigenous voices. We thank them for sharing their time, talent, and traditions with us.
